Practical Tasks: Individual Presentations

Timing

The practical focus for Semester Two will be on preparing an individual presentation in the form of a design rationale, in preparation for your second assignment.

Each student is required to give a 5-minute individual presentation to other members of the class, normally in the form of a Powerpoint slide show (or similar). The dates for this can be found here (most will feature in the first slot and the second slot will be mainly for those who were absent). Remember that you must have already obtained approval for your proposal in the form of an email from Rod (keep this to include in your final submission).

Contents

Your individual presentation to the class should include these 5 elements (for your five minutes):

All of this must be based on evidence (the best you can provide)--not on your personal opinions! You are welcome to seek advice and criticism from friends and other class-members on your live presentation.

If you go over your time limit you will be warned of this, and if you exceed 7 minutes you will be stopped. For the live presentation you are advised to bring your slideshow to the class on a USB stick or to include a link from an online account such as your email account. To reduce delays you may be asked to set up your slideshow (quietly) during the live feedback given for the previous presentation.

How does this relate to the final submission?

You will be given feedback on your presentation and this exercise is intended to help you improve your final submission (and thus also your marks).

A Powerpoint (or similar) presentation must also be included in your second assignment submission: as a printout and on disk. Revision of the actual presentation given in class is allowed for the final submission. Failure to give a presentation or to include a slideshow in your final submission may lead to a mark of zero for this element.

Be aware that the second assignment includes a list of other requirements.
