Practical Tasks: Group Presentation

The practical focus for Semester One - the period up until the first assignment is due - will be on preparing a small-group presentation in the form of a design pitch either for:

• a website promoting engineering courses for girls, or
• a website selling clothes to non-fashion-conscious boys.

The presentation will consist of:

• an identification of the proposed target audience
• a ‘competitor analysis’
• a conclusion with a ‘mission statement’

In your groups, you will be presenting your pitches to the class in the form of a talk lasting from 5 to 10 minutes backed up by a PowerPoint presentation. In this exercise, imagine that you are presenting to the client. That is not much time to fit everything in so make sure you design your presentation effectively by identifying clearly the important points that you need to make and rehearsing it with other members of your group.

Your presentations will be critiqued by Daniel Chandler and myself. These critiques are intended to identify the strengths and weaknesses in your approaches with respect to the competences already mentioned. I hope the practicals will prove invaluable as part of the process of preparing for your individual assessed second assignment.

Note that in the second semester, prior to the second assignment there will also be an individual presentation.
